Trying for a larger focus on shading in this piece- to not let details bog me down. Also trying to "speed paint"- yeah that didn't work as this took me 6-7 hours to do. Also trying different unfamiliar brushes in Painter 8, such as chalk pastels. So... yay!

I think the jpg kills the pastel detail, also the color alteration between Painter and Photoshop is crazy. Could be my horrible 6 year old laptop LCD...

So who is this guy? He's a character from Jay Naylor's comic New Worlds. His name is Calico Jack and he seemed like a cool guy, so he became the artistic experiment of the day. Maybe I am a animal nut, but the only thing that bothers me about this character is that I thought only female cats could be calico. That is all!
